Publisher: Robson Lowe, London, 1965

First edition, hardback, dustwrapper, illustrated, 174 pages, dustwrapper rubbed and with some short tears, some foxing to the dustwrapper and to the page-edges, internally clean, a Good reading copy.

First edition of the classic work on the interesting postal history and curious native stamps of Tibet. The history of the Younghusband expeditions of 1903 and 1904, the introduction of the British-Indian and Chinese postal agencies and the establishment and expansion of Tibet’s own postal services are dealt with fully. The philatelic problems arising from the Tibetan stamps with their varied inks and settings, and the variety of date-stamps are also carefully described. For good measure, the history of the Mount Everest expeditions and flights are also included. Long out of print and scarce.
